Have you every had that chug, chug and then look down at the gas gauge – OH NO – ran out of gas! When you run your fuel too low consistently, you can damage the fuel pump. The fuel pump is lubricated and cooled by the fuel. It pumps the fuel to the engine. Fuel pumps do not have any maintenance that can be performed other than using higher grade fuels and maintaining at least a quarter of a tank of fuel at all times.
Some vehicles have external fuel filters, others have internal fuel filters. This means that the external fuel filters are outside of the fuel tank and can be replaced regularly. Most recommendations are to replace the fuel filter every 15,000 – 30,000 miles. We recommend replace the fuel filter every 15,000 miles due to the poor quality of most fuels.
